If I can do it you can do it too…is probably one of the most cliche sentences ever!
But today I decided to use it and here’s why:
I get a lot of comments from clients like:
‘You are so enthusiastic, passionate, outgoing….’
But that wasn’t always the case!
In fact I am a total introvert! I love working by myself, reading a book, hiding away.
Put me in front of a group of people and I totally freak out, waiting for the right moment to get the heck out of there!
You might now think, that this is a bit odd as my passion ( and yes my business!) is to inspire and teach women entrepreneurs to put themselves out there and sharing their message in front of a live audience.
You might even think now that I am a fraud! Ermmm….if you do – read on.
I came to the UK in 1999 with one suitcase which I borrowed from my nan.
After a 16 hour coach trip, I found myself at Birmingham Central Bus Station.
I kept thinking: ‘ What the hell am I doing here?’
Growing up with an alcoholic, I learned that it is good to be quiet, best to disappear to avoid any trouble. And I was good at that! I became an expert on disappearing. I never spoke up, never put myself into the spotlight- I put my head down and worked hard.
And that day, that day I just wanted to disappear. To turn back immediately, get the heck out of there! I was about to shout to the bus driver: ‘ Wait! Take me back!’ ( via Edinburgh…)
That day my life changed forever!
The short version is, that I went on to have a successful career in hotel sales (!) with one of the largest hotel chains on the planet.
I started my own business, working with blue chip companies organising thousands of conferences and events across the world.
I entered public speaking and debating competitions on a national and international level. I became a trainer for a voluntary organisation, travelling the world to train young professionals.
And of course: Met my husband who’s my best friend and soul mate.
I’d love to tell you that this one of these rags to glory stories!
But really it isn’t!
I’ve made so many mistakes, I could write a book about it ( hmmm…1 Million Mistakes, by Sandra Pilarczyk).
I lost clients which meant my 6 figure turn over business went to 0, nada, zillch literally over night!
A few years ago I hit rock bottom. Total burnout, don’t wanna get out of bed kinda thing …
I paid a high price for running a corporate business for over 10 years:
No holidays for ages and my beautiful, gorgeous and amazing kids grew up with au pairs, nurseries, after school and holiday clubs.
And that’s when I discovered BSchool. I’m not going into all the details, but one of the things the owner Marie Forleo talks about is that ou simply should do what you are passionate about.
Whhhaaaattttttttt???? Passion? Love to do? Business? I didn’t get that at first…..
I used to believe that when you are running a business there are certain rules, certain things you must do:
Business cards, logos, and that whole shebang!
It took me a really long time to grasp the concept of-
‘Do what you Love doing!’
I love to inspire people
I love teaching
I love transforming people’s lives
Now I am helping women solopreneurs to bust through the fear of visibility by sharing their message in their unique style.
I truly believe that you have an incredible opportunity to make a positive impact in your clients lives by sharing your knowledge, experiences and stories by going live with your online events and speaking gigs.
Connecting with some beautiful souls in person.
There is nothing more rewarding than seeing your clients’s happening right in front of your eyes!
And talking about rewarding, girl: Yep, going live with online events and speaking gigs is great way to make some extra cash for your business!
You see- I am not a fraud! I just learned to do what I love to do ( the long and hard way….).
And yes, sharing my passion is what makes me an incredible enthusiastic, passionate and outgoing person.
And ( wait for it…) ‘ If I can do this, you can do this too!’
Until the next time- Remember to be brave, be willing to connect and Live It Up!
